How to fix the “Sorry, this Adobe application is not available” error on Windows and MacOs
Are you getting the error message “Sorry, this Adobe application is not available? To continue using this Adobe application, check your Internet connection or firewall.
If so, you’re not alone.
Many Adobe users have experienced this problem,
Having an uninterrupted workflow is essential when working on creative projects, and Adobe software is an indispensable tool for most designers and photographers.
But what happens when Adobe applications refuse to work due to an Internet connection problem?
In this article, we will discuss the common error message “Sorry, this Adobe application is not available. To continue using this Adobe application, check your Internet connection, firewall, or ad blocking settings”, and provide a step-by-step guide on how to fix it.
How to fix the “Sorry, this Adobe application is not available” error
To fix the “Sorry, this Adobe app is not available” error, add the list of Adobe Block IP addresses to the Hosts file and clear the DNS cache.
First Method
Step 1: Close all Adobe programs
Before starting the patch, make sure all your Adobe programs are closed.
This step is essential to ensure that the changes you make in the following steps take effect.
Step 2: Open the terminal to open the hosts file (on MAC)
On Mac: Press Command + Spacebar to open Spotlight search, type “Terminal” and press Enter.
The terminal is a command line interface for Mac users that allows you to execute commands to manage your computer settings.
Step 3: Edit the Hosts file (Windows and MAC)
– On Mac : In the Terminal window, type “sudo nano /etc/hosts” and press Enter.
This command opens the hosts file, which is a plain text file used by your computer’s operating system
This command opens the hosts file, which is a plain text file used by your computer’s operating system to map host names to IP addresses.
You will be prompted to enter your password.
Type your password and press Enter.
As you type your password, you will not see any characters appear on the screen, but your entry will be saved.
– On Windows: You will find the host file here “c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts“.
****** You need the copy the file on the desktop to be able to edit it. *****
Step 4: Add the Adobe Blocklist to the Hosts file
Once you have opened the hosts file, scroll to the bottom of the document and paste the address.
add the following address:
127.0.0.1 1b9khekel6.adobe.io
- On Mac : Once you are done editing the hosts file, press Control + X on your keyboard. Enter Y to save the changes, and hit the Enter button.
- On Windows save the file and recopy it from the desktop to its original path “c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts”
Second Method
Use Radio Silence Software https://radiosilenceapp.com/ and add PS and AI…
Personally, I fixed it by manually finding the new address that Photoshop was using and adding it to the bottom of this hosts file. This approach doesn’t require Radio Silence (which ultimately didn’t work for some people), and it’s a relatively simple process:
- Make sure PS is closed.
- Download and install Wireshark.
- Start scanning traffic in Wireshark (watch up to 1:45 in this video for a walkthrough). If you’re using a VPN, disable it while you scan.
- Start PS and wait for the pop-up to appear.
- Stop scanning in Wireshark and type “DNS” in the filter bar (demo of how to filter at 5:06 in the video linked above). Scroll to where you see packets that have Adobe addresses on the right side (you can also use the Find tool to help here: click the regular magnifying glass icon, change “Display filter” to “String”, and then look for “adobe.io”).
- Find a packet with an Info section that reads: “Standard query 0x13ef AAAA XXXXXXXXXX.adobe.io”, where the Xs are a unique combination of letters and numbers.
- Add your version of XXXXXXXXXX.adobe.io to the bottom of the hosts file, following the same format as the other entries, and then save it.
- Run this Terminal command to restart the mDNSResponder process (I saw it in another post, but not sure if it’s necessary, so Windows users may be fine skipping this step):
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder && sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
- Start PS and enjoy! Hope it works for you too.
